Could had been fun but unfortunately just wasn't.

Could had been fun but unfortunately just wasn't. Man, I just don't know why I keep falling for such movies. Their concepts sounds greatly entertaining and silly enough to expect a good and fun movie from but rarely do this kind of movies ever work out as such. It's not hard to say what is the foremost problem with this movie . Thing is that this movie of course has a totally ridicules and far from convincing main premise but yet the movie decides on taking a serious approach with it all. When you have such a low budget and so minimal resources there simply is no way that you can make this movie work out as a serious one. Had they decided on a more entertaining and over-the-top approach the movie would at least had been fun to watch. It now is mostly a boring one that is awfully bad looking. The movie is a mixture of WW II and horror in which all different kinds of monsters show up. Sounds exciting perhaps but it just really isn't. The movie gets never tense be

Boring combination of war flick and zombie movie.

Boring combination of war flick and zombie movie. A general rule of thumb when it comes to movies is: if it involves Nazi's, don't watch it. From the crappy Nazisploitation genre that was unjustly popular in the seventies to 'Nazi zombie' movies like Shock Waves and Zombie Lake, there's rarely anything good that involves Nazi's - and "Horrors of War" not only does nothing to buck that trend, but is actually worse than most of the other Nazi crap that I've seen. The film features a World War 2 setting and focuses on the popular myth about Hitler having an interest in the supernatural and trying to incorporate it into his army. Basically, we end up with a bunch of soldiers 'researching' Hitler's new weapons. The main problem with this film is that it's boring. All the characters are basically the same (and all portrayed in the same, downbeat, way) and therefore are impossible to care about. The plot formula features the so

If it only were half as good as the movie poster

If it only were half as good as the movie poster Horrors of  war Movies isn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it's so bad in an entirely different way. It begins in Germany during the end of a war when US soldiers run into a Nazi zombie soldier. Then we are taken a couple of months back when soldiers run into a soldier who was taken captive by the Nazis. He tells if a creature that killed all the Nazis and of a man who seemed to be in charge. Lt. Schmidt is sent to investigate to France and his platoon runs into this creature that turns out to be a werewolf for some reason. He returns with a report that no one believes. Then he sent to investigate something else and this time they run into a Nazi super soldier zombie. He returns with his report and this time is sent to investigate the man who may be responsible for all unexplained events- the man the soldier saw earlier. The Lt. is joined with Capt. Russo and they don't get along. They find a factory were

I love Monster, Zombie & War movies

I love Monster, Zombie & War movies ...I wish this movie could have decided what it wanted to be. Were the real "Horrors of War" your fellow soldiers attitudes? How they treat civilians? The decisions you must make to redeem yourself and save others? Mad Scientists? Nazi Mutant Zombies?  French Werewolfs? Well, I was really hoping for more of the latter 3, (and more gore) but this could have worked as regular a war movie with any Nazi super weapon, the monster element seemed tacked on (especially there whole werewolf part, it seemed very much a pointless sidebar). I'd have rather seen more of a real Monster threat in a war setting.  The monsters came one at a time, and slowly. there wasn't much of a perceived 'Monster threat' leading to a big showdown, the big showdown was...well, awkward. Out of nowhere the Mutant Mad Doc and Werewolf start fighting, and the werewolf dies like a vampire...then after the "sacrificial choice", between a fam

Worst WW2 movie ever

Worst WW2 movie ever Oh well, here I was, seeing the high rating and reading about Nazis and werewolfs. Well, there are probably some Nazis in it. I guess. From the bad acting, they could have been drunks in German WW2 clothings. About that WW2 factor: That were some of the most awful WW2 combat scenes I've ever seen. The special effects sucked big time, the sound effects were so damn wrong, and the CGI muzzle flashes and blood gave me the rest. Oh, but wait, there are monsters too. Monsters that looked as horrible as in Uwe Bolls infamous House of the Dead. Was I scared? Yes, that this horrible bad movie will never end. From the crappy intro to the long awaited end credits, this movie is an awful war movie and an even more awful horror movie. Do yourself a favor and run if you see that movie. If you like the WW2 themed horror movies, there are better titles of that genre available. Most of them aren't good, but at least they are better than this crap. This movi

Scream the series is guilty pleasure trash for people who don't like the horror genre

Scream the series is guilty pleasure trash for people who don't like the horror genre Let's get this out there first and foremost. Scream:The Series is a slave to a scenario that require very talented writers to navigate a ten episode run of twists and turns that can keep you scared, jumping, questioning who-done-it and ultimately caring about it all while tying it together in a cohesive package. https://365movies.is/ Talented writers are not what we have here. It is apparent as soon as you tune into episode 2 that any thought put into the pilot to get the network green light was immediately abandoned for a "let's just get this filmed" mentality. The two most prominent examples of laziness? The repeated near supernatural abilities of our killer to appear and vanish only for the sake of scare (example; slicing a victims throat in an open field while her boyfriend stands, IN FRAME only an arms length away, only to vanish as the boyfriend turns while never

An absolute DISGRACE to the memory of the legendary Wes Craven!

An absolute DISGRACE to the memory of the legendary Wes Craven! Where to start... Right from the beginning when they announced a TV show instead of a new movie, my heart sank deep. I've been begging and hoping for a fifth movie to conclude the Scream series once and for all, but 4 years after, the master himself has passed away and Bob Weinstein was a stubborn moron, who missed his chance to earn big money… I love the Scream series, and I've been a huge fan, ever since I first watched the movies all the way back in 2008. https://365movies.is/  I've watched most of Wes' movies, and he's by far my favorite horror director. Both "Scream" and "A Nightmare on Elm Street" has made a huge impact on me, more so than any other horror series. But this… "show" is just a giant middle finger to fans' faces everywhere, and a disgrace to the late Wes Craven. Like I said, I never really anticipated this series. But I occasionally read u

Underwhelming, but needs new writers!

Underwhelming, but needs new writers! I vowed not to review this until at least a few episodes in to give it a fair shot. I understand this was developed for the new MTV generation, but quite frankly, this show massively insults them. Unlike the popular film franchise which managed to cleverly poke fun at stereotypes, this series tries to legitimately pass them off in glaringly offensive ways. The girls either impossibly weak damsels in distress, or bitter, venomous sex objects written specifically for male entertainment. The only exception to this rule has been the refreshing character of Audrey.  https://365movies.is/ Aside from her, the jocks are trying to be alpha males and the girls are skimping around in lingerie and teasing them. It's definitely exploitation, and for anyone with a modicum of intelligence, disturbing as well. I place the blame for this solely in the writers laps. This is simply lazy development, relying on caricatures rather the giving us people who

Good plot twists, easily addictive

I recently began binge-watching Scream the series on Netflix a couple of days ago and became hooked straight away. I had seen the original Scream movie from 1996 and found the story-line to be clever and was intrigued to see how they could revamp the 90s cult film into a 2015 series and what the similarities between the characters would be with a modern twist. https://365movies.is/ I am currently on the final 2 episodes of the second series and can say that the show has not disappointed yet. The first series was easy to follow and the characters were well cast with good back stories and played out in a sense that everyone could be a possible suspect. Just when I began to feel any empathy or adhere to a character, they would be murdered or attacked and thus, throwing the viewer off track as to 'who done it'. Although there appeared to be many cringe-worthy moments, I personally enjoyed all the pop culture references as it made the show feel more relatable growing up i

The murderer will be some less you think...

The murderer will be some less you think... Amicably making a case for itself. As a TV series, Scream has the advantage of having infamous namesake and it does deliver the classic slasher gimmick, although its greatest attribute is its self- awareness. It realizes the obstacles, such as cliché high school setting and transition from movie to series, and rather than trying to gloss it over, Scream faces it head-on with smart quips in addition to the mandatory pool of blood. https://365movies.is/ Premise remains the same, a killer stalks their preys before mutilating them in gruesome fashion. The show gives this antique gore aptly, it's pretty good in the buildup and effect of the butchering is done with just the right tone. However, it's not just slashing away randomly, it also tries to set an eclectic cast. As the movie itself says, the audience should invest or care about the characters to make the killing efficient. http://moviesbox.live/ Characters are presentab

Fascism via De Sade

I'm going to keep this short. If you want to see Salo simply to see what all the hype is about, keep your $600. Or rent it. If you can find it. I happen to own the Criterion release that is now being ripped and sold on Ebay for $400-600 bucks. Is it worth it? No. Is any film? No. Is it an excellent film? Absolutely. https://365movies.is/ Try not to think of Pasolini's masterpiece as a shock-for-shock's sake project and you'll truly understand the horror that is Salo. While the depiction of violence, sodomy, corpophagia, eye-gouging, scalping, nipple burning with candles, etc. etc. is horrific it is Pasolini's treatment of the boys and girls that is much more horrifying. The monsters that occupy this small space of two hours, the fascists, are more human that their victims. We are given no insight into the lives of these children, while we are shown at great length the heads of state personal histories and sadistic proclivities. Salo has stood the test

Did Pasolini really "wallow in his own sensationalism"?

Did Pasolini really "wallow in his own sensationalism"? With Pier Paolo Pasolini's "Salo," the long-disputed issue of the extent to which a filmmaker can interpret a story on screen has been put to the ultimate test. And when "extreme" cases do happen, do the censors become "morally" justified in interfering with the filmmaker's "creative freedom"? There are a good number of films that can be used to illustrate the issues raised:Alejandro Jodorowsky's "Santa Sangre" can be a case in point regarding the subject of violence and gore (a mentally-disturbed serial murderer and his domineering mother, with surreal images and subtle attacks on the Catholic faith),while Nagisa Oshima's "In the Realm of the Senses" can be a point of reference regarding the subject of sex and nudity (a couple---a geisha and a tradesman---who has practically made sexual intercourse the be-all and end-all of their lives,

One of the roughest films you'll ever see.

One of the roughest films you'll ever see. "Salo: The 120 Days of Sodom" (1975): Be prepared for one of the roughest films you'll ever see. This was Pasolini's last, and going by what I've seen, his vision only became bleaker and more disturbed as the years clawed along. Using the Marquis de Sade's ideas on the decadence of 18th century France, Pasolini represents Fascist Italy (1944-45). We are shown the upper class – always removed and protected from the outer world – as predators of the poor, weak, young, and less educated. A group of wealthy adults shop amongst the kidnapped older children of bourgeoisie. They choose eighteen, and steal them away to a hidden mansion, where there is no escape. There, the adults live out every twisted fantasy they've ever had or can now muster, while demeaning, raping, and torturing the youngsters. The teens react in many ways, none of which are "pretty". This entire film experience MUST be viewed

A Film of Rage and Sadness

A Film of Rage and Sadness Salo, the final film  by Pasolini, is far and away the most affecting film I've ever seen of it's type. The images that it shows will stay with every viewer forever, they are unforgettable. Yet, you will wish you could forget them. The film is about a group of rich Fascists during WWII-Nazi Occupied Italy, where they kidnap a group of 18 youngsters, allowing only physically perfect specimins to stay, and subject them to various forms of mental, physical and sexual torture over the next 120 Days. The torture starts off in a sexual nature--Sodomy, rape, humiliation and so on-- and slowly degrades and descends into mental and physical torture. Just when you think what you are seeing can't get worse, it does, ten-fold. What makes Salo so brutally shocking and disturbing is its uncompromised and blunt way of showing the acts of horror. It is a very quiet and slow film, mostly shot using static and still cameras, it feels more like a documenta

One of the most gruelling films ever made world_of_weird

Pier Paolo Pasolini, as is well known, was murdered not long after he finished work on this, his most audacious and confrontational film, yet even the most casual viewing of SALO begs the question - had he not been murdered, would he have taken his own life anyway? One of the most gruelling films ever made world_of_weird  Every sequence, every shot and practically every moment of this film is so burdened with despair, barely concealed rage and a towering disgust with the human race, one gets the impression that Pasolini was barely hanging onto life - and any attendant shreds of hope - by his fingernails.  Although ostensibly an adaptation of one of DeSade's most depraved works channeled through the horrifying excesses of the Second World War with the Fascist ruling classes as its (authentically vile) villains, SALO also contains a lot of contemporary criticism - Pasolini hated the modern world, and explained the stomach-churning 'banquet of s**t' as a

The television channel broke into this category

Relatively recently, the BBC has become a beacon of popular culture. The television channel broke into this category with the aid of shows with cult followings and well-known actors- remakes like Doctor Who (2005), re-imaginings like Sherlock (2010), and historical dramas like Downton Abbey (2010). Before this modern era of broadcast, the BBC produced a slew of well-received and painfully detailed (at least, to my younger, crankier self who used them to stay up past bedtime) miniseries. Some examples that come to mind are the 1973 four hour long Jane Eyre and the 1995 six-episode Pride and Prejudice. https://365movies.is/  Around that same time, apparently, they cut Shakespeare's plays to under a half an hour (25:47, to be exact) and filmed them using Claymation. Clearly the second half of the twentieth century was a branching point for the BBC, turning away from animation films (short though they may have been) and towards live-acted series with big name actors (for example Co

Halloween Marathon, part 2: The Devils behind the sun

The first Men Behind the Sun marked the beginning of the Category III (CAT III) movies, the extreme graphic violence and the historical theme made Men Behind the sun going to the highlights, apparently, it grossed enough money for make a "sequel". https://365movies.is/ Men Behind the sun II is directed by Godfrey Ho (remember Ninja Thunderbolt ? Ninja Terminator ?), the greatest Hong Kong B-movie director. This is more a remake than a sequel, with the only difference is that we don't see the cadet's "point of view". Men Behind the Sun II is the most violent and nasty (at least in my opinion) of the whole Man Behind the sun Quadrilogy, it includes the most disgusting autopsy scene ever filmed. The special effects are realistic, shocking and gross. The English dub is cheesy. Many people complained at the time that T.F Mou made Men Behind the Sun just for make some cash on this sad story, actually, i think that the guy who did this is Godfrey Ho, compare

Disgusting torture and then turns into a bloody action flick

Disgusting torture and then turns into a bloody action flick I've not seen "Man Behind the Sun" or "Evil Dead Trap" or that many Asian horror films. That said, this movie is more gruesome than almost all European and of course American movies that I have seen. It is not quite as disturbing as "The Untold Story" from Hong Kong. I ran to the computer to make sure the autopsy early in the film was not real. https://365movies.is/  I did not really find anything on the web that proved to me otherwise. The naked girl does not look like a dummy and the dry limbs being sawed off, that's shocking. I'm not sure that if it was a real corpse, that it was then material taken from stock footage. Anyway, it blows away the first film in the "Guinea Pig" series, which has a very low budget and poor production values. This movie has a large cast and does not skimp on special effects. All the gun deaths result in blood splatter. In more lazy g

The Shape of Water is Guillermo del Toro's latest epic. We follow Eliza

The Shape of Water is Guillermo del Toro's latest epic. We follow Eliza (Sally Hawkins), a mute cleaning assistant and her friend Zelda (Octavia Spencer) as they work deep within a military facility in Cold War United States.  https://365movies.is/ Of interest in this facility is "The Asset", an amphibian creature of deep intelligence and equally deep ferocity. Its captor, Strickland, is an unfeeling sadist who cannot love but can control and torment. He simply wants a promotion from his military superiors and tortures The Asset at every turn. Thankfully for the Asset, he is discovered by Eliza, who befriends him and helps him escape to her apartment space, which she shares with Giles, an advertising cartoonist who is falling behind the times, as photography is taking over at present. Giles and Eliza communicate well and he helps her store our amphibian friend, and ultimately befriend and save it.  The Shape of Water offers much beyond the story, however. It is a vi

A sweet, romantic creature feature.

'The Shape of Water' is co-written and directed by Guillermo del Toro and stars Sally Hawkins as Elisa, a mute woman working in a 1960's US government lab which is harboring an aquatic Amazonian creature which she falls in love with and decides to save from the grasp of the American and Russian governments. The cast is rounded out by Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stulhbarg and Michael Shannon.  https://365movies.is/ This film along with 'Dunkirk' is one of the finest technical achievements of the year boasting stunning cinematography (particularly the effect of camera seemingly floating on water the whole time), beautiful production design and a seductive old Hollywood-style score.  The story of outsiders coming together to help another is absorbing and heartwarming and is greatly helped by remarkable performances across the board but particularly by Sally Hawkins who is mesmerizing without saying a word. Richard Jenkins is also noteworthy as

True Love of Film Making and Cinema

Guillermo del Toro's passion project, The Shape of Water, proves that creativity can exist in the simplest of concepts. Del Toro is no stranger to monsters and their interaction with humans, but this is his most intimate, personal portrait of a fictional creature in the real world. Perhaps more than any of his other films , this one feels the most grounded in reality in terms of setting. Sure, the monster isn't very real and the fantasy-like romance exists only for the dreamers who experience this film to relish in and enjoy. This film draws obvious inspiration from Creature from the Black Lagoon. It manages to feel like an homage to it more than a direct copy of it through its creativity and attention to detail that honors its influences instead of disrespecting them. Set during the Cold War in a government research facility in Baltimore, this film finds beauty in the characters and their actions where a less thought-out film would simply set this story in a beautiful city of
